OVAM – Ecodesign Award: A fresh and impactful campaign

Each year, OVAM and Vlaanderen Circulair organize the Ecodesign Award, a competition for design students in higher education. Since its launch in 2007, the award has evolved into a full-fledged platform that fosters innovation in circular design. For the 2024 edition, they brought in Umbau as a marketing partner to give the campaign a fresh new look and to reach a wider student audience.

Approach

We developed a striking campaign image that responds to the challenges of AI while emphasizing the importance of circular design. The core message? Your creativity makes the difference.

To reach students and teachers, we created a rich content plan featuring a wide range of formats, including social media carousels, reels, stories, and live updates. We also supported on-campus activations and conferences with visual content and interactive materials, such as an eco-party to boost engagement.

Umbau took full ownership of the content creation and introduced a new, dynamic tone of voice that better resonates with a younger audience.

Results

Thanks to a powerful visual style and strategic content approach, the Ecodesign Award was able to activate more students and deliver the message of circular design in a clear and inspiring way. The campaign boosted the competition’s visibility, led to more submissions, and brought the theme of the circular economy closer to the designers of the future.

In a short timeframe, we succeeded in reviving an existing concept and creating an impactful, accessible campaign. By smartly combining storytelling, branding, and digital activation, we made the circular economy tangible and relevant for a young, creative audience.
